Your older Slingbox model is normally updated automatically when it's on and connected to the Internet. But there are some instances when you may need to manually update it. Here are step-by-step instructions for doing this.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This does not apply to the Slingbox 350, Slingbox M1/M2, or the Slingbox 500, which update themselves automatically.
The Slingbox M1 uses Slingplayer for Desktop for BOTH setup and viewing TV. You can only set up your Slingbox 350 or Slingbox 500 using IE or Firefox on Windows, or Safari or Firefox on Mac OS X. ± These Slingbox models can accept high-definition (HD) connections, but only the Slingbox M1/M2, Slingbox 500, Slingbox 350, and Slingbox PRO-HD. The Slingbox 350 and the Slingbox 500 require your Sling Account for authentication, but SlingPlayer for Mac doesn't support Sling Accounts. So the Slingbox 350 and the Slingbox 500 are not supported for use with SlingPlayer for Mac, nor can we help you work around this.

Background information
There is software on your Slingbox that controls the encoding of the video and how it is streamed to you over the Internet. As our technology and the SlingPlayer software improves, we often need to update that software. You will see this software referred to in our documentation as Slingbox Software or Firmware.
To manually update your firmware, you need to access your Slingbox from a supported web browser (see the link below for supported browsers) on a computer - you cannot update your Slingbox directly from any of the mobile versions of SlingPlayer.
Also note that it's best to be at home when updating your firmware, just in case you need to physically access your Slingbox.

A note about older desktop versions of SlingPlayer
You can no longer use an older desktop version of SlingPlayer, like SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows or SlingPlayer for Mac, to update your firmware to the latest version. These applications are no longer being developed and are not up-to-date. You must use Slingbox.com to get the latest and greatest software installed on your Slingbox.
